Breaking In

A comprehensive service to prepare thoroughbreds for their lives in racing. From the initial steps in the round yard, right through to early barrier training and exposure to the public track. Initial ground work is key to providing horses with a good basis on which to progress safely and confidently. After this is established, initial ridden work can commence including schooling and circle work to ensure balance and aids are taught in a controlled manner.
Once this is mastered, horses then progress to our home track, work through the bush and eventually the barriers to expose them to a number of different situations and foster the confidence to work past things they are unsure of. Exposure to the public track is of huge importance when the horse is deemed ready. Here, they will utilise their new skills and confidence to deal with an integral part of their career. This not only includes ridden work around the track both alone and in company, but also utilises the ground skills they mastered early on in proceedings- travelling in the truck, standing in the tie ups, hosing down etc.
The breaking in process is usually a 4-5 week period.
